Moments of Growth
In every department of life, [a sense of disappointment or anticlimax] marks the transition from dreaming aspiration to laborious doing.
— C.S. Lewis, in The Screwtape Letters
On Leadership
In calm waters, every ship has a good captain.
— Swedish proverb
On Leadership
Leadership is the art of getting someone to do something you want done because he wants to do it.
— Dwight D. Eisenhower
On the Worship of God
The worship of Yah is an attitude. One strives for perfection in all things, including a forgetfulness of self. And one keeps a thankful heart, even in painful experience which we cannot interpret. Then we can only trust Him, knowing He rules all things which concern us.
— Florence Marvyne Bauer, in Abram, Son of Terah
On the Worship of God
This faith [Christianity] is not like a deed to a house in which one may live with full rights of possession. It is more like a kit of tools with which a man may build him a house. The tools will be worth just what he does with them. When he lays them down, they will have no value until he takes them up again.
— Lloyd Douglas, The Robe
Funny, But Oh, So True!
A scientist said to God one day, “God, we don’t need you anymore. We can do everything that You ever did. Why, we can even create life out of nothing!”
“Really?” God said, “Tell me about this.”
“We can take dirt, form it into the shape of a person, and breathe life into it, just as You did,” said the scientist.
“Will you show me how you can do this?” God asked the scientist.
So the scientist gathered up a pile of dirt and began to shape it into the form of a man.
God exclaimed, “No, no, wait a minute! Get your own dirt!”
On Politics and Gender
In politics, if you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.
— Margaret Thatcher
